I think I went through a dilemma of needing change recently. Not big changes, just something to spice up the monotony life can become if you aren't careful. When this happens, my friends who are online on gchat are the first to hear about it. You already heard about when I asked my friends for suggestions on new tunes. Well, they also heard from me recently concerning new recipes. Trying new recipes gives me more motivation to cook, instead of telling Danny to order a pizza. (Even though that still happens on long work days.) I haven't made all the recipe suggestions given to me, but here's a couple that I've really liked so far.

I found this recipe on pinterest and it was really delicious. Danny gave it an 8 out 10. (I always ask him to rate a new recipe I make to see if it is worth making again.) On the blog this recipe originally comes from, it's called Spanish Chicken with Chorizo and Potatoes, but I couldn't find chorizo sausage. I didn't really know what it was in the first place. So I just got normal smoked sausage from the grocery store and it turned out great. This recipe is really fun because it is in grams, sooo I just kind of guessed a lot. Plus I cut the recipe down to about a third, since it is just me and Danny.
This what I used:
2-3 Tbsp. olive oil
2 chicken breasts, cut in halves
8 oz. smoked sausage cut in small pieces
8 small red potatoes
1/2 red onion chopped
1 tsp. oregano
Grated zest and juice of 1 small orange
Salt to taste
I followed the directions on the blog, except she said to cook it at 220 degrees Celsius I entered that into a converter online and it said that was 428 degrees Fahrenheit. That seemed a little too warm, so I dropped it to 400. Next time I think I'll drop it to 375 and cut the potatoes up more, because when I made this the chicken was done before the potatoes so the chicken was a little dry by the time we ate. The great thing about this dish is that it is your main dish and a side (the potatoes and sausage) all in one.

These were really good. As I'm typing this, Danny looked over my shoulder and said, "Those were flippin' awesome." He even gave it a 10 out of 10. He never gives anything 10, unless it is sushi or Papa Johns pizza. I made these a little differently, because I didn't make the crescents in a braid. I made the filling as directed and then I put a little filling in the crescent triangle, rolled it up and pinched the edges together so it made a pouch. This would probably be healthier if you made your own crescents instead of from the can, but with work I don't have time for such things.
In Other News...
- I got my hair cut yesterday, just a few inches. I guess it ties in with the whole needing some change attitude of this post.
- Two weeks ago, we went to a big stake meeting and our ward was dissolved. Gone, just like that. Sad day. Half of us were put in the ward to the north, the other half in the ward to the south. This also means we were all released from our callings, so Danny and I aren't primary teachers anymore. At the meeting a little bit of me was happy, because I was running out of ideas for primary lessons and the kids could be a handful at times. However, today was our first day in our new ward and I missed my primary kids so much. I think with the release of this calling, it has a left a little hole in my heart.
- Today I came up with the grand idea of putting together a Halloween costume for Jonnifer the gnome. I know, I'm a little strange. Actually I prefer the term, quirky. This is what happens when you don't have kids to dress up. Stay tuned, it's going to be awesome.
Oh i have made that crescent thing before. It is good! And chorizo is spicy sausage. I think I would have chosen regular sausage like you.
ReplyDeleteShel - Thanks for the clarification. I should have just called you!
ReplyDeleteThose broccoli cheddar crescents look really good. When Dad and I were first married I used to try a new recipe once a week. Then we voted on it. The worst things I ever tried were some kind of cold fruit soup, a summer casserole and potato pancakes. They didn't even rate a one, and the recipes ended up in the garbage. The best one I tried was chop suey and it's been Dad's favorite ever since.
ReplyDeleteMama Wood - I actually think I got the voting on a new recipe idea from you. I always have Danny vote on anything new I make to see if it is worth making again.
