Latest Adventure

For our anniversary, Danny and I went to St. George.  We had a fabulous time eating, hanging out with family, going to a concert and so forth.  However, our grand adventure was visiting one of my favorite spots in Utah, Zion National Park.  Our first day there, we hiked the Riverside Trail which took us to the mouth of the Narrows.  We decided to forge on in the frigid water and came across some breathtaking scenery.  Danny and I were snapping pictures like crazy.  We only hiked up the Narrows for a couple of miles and then turned back around.  We now have a new goal to hike the whole thing.  The second day we did some quick short hikes before we had to head back home.  We visited the Weeping Rock Trail which was beautiful and the Patriarch Court look out, which was more like 10 steps than a hike.  Prepare yourself for some awesome red rock photos.

Behind us is the hanging gardens that grow right out of the cliff,
so amazingly beautiful.
And that is what I call some massive cliffs.
A really nice British guy gave me his walking stick, for
which I will be forever grateful.  I was also pleased it
looked like it could be Moses' staff.
Shimmery Splendor
When I said the water was frigid, I was not joking.
It kind of hurt until your feet went completely numb.
Just around the river bend! (Every once in a while, you just have
to quote Disney song.)
I thought this tree looked so majestic, the way it glowed in the sunlight against
the dark canyon walls.
Danny the Explorer.  (Move over Dora)
The canyon walls jetting up to the sky.  One of the coolest things I've seen!
Another view of the canyon.  I seriously couldn't
get enough.
The red cliffs welcoming us back.

I liked this tree, my leafy canopy.

Why so sad little rock?
What makes your tears fall? (Other than gravity.)
Getting my hands wet.
One must take couple pictures when on an adventure together.
An angelic moment.

Just reminding you that we were in the desert.

The Court of the Patriarchs.
In my heart resides a special spot for glorious mountains like these.
Danny and me, to prove we were there.
All adventures must come to an end.
We returned home late Monday night, tired and sore.  I was grateful to be able to sleep in my own bed again.  However, as I dusted off my Chaco hiking sandals and hung up my Camelbak pack for the season, the all too familiar sadness came over me.  I've been holding it off pretty well this year, but it comes as the days grow shorter and colder.  My summery hiking and explorations will have to wait until next year after the winter months when the earth decides to thaw. I miss the mountainous trails already.

  3. Becky - Thanks and we would love to.

Julianne - Danny and I actually have snowshoes, we just need to use them! I hoping it helps me endure the winter a little bit. Utah is pretty great. Now that you live closer we could meet in Southern Utah and go on hikes. Think about it, it could be amazing!

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

The End of the Road

There is a time when things fulfill their purpose and that is how I've been feeling with this blog of mine. When I started it, I needed my own little spot to share my thoughts and random stuff I found online. However, having two blogs has become excessive. It has been a good run (me and this little blog) and thanks for joining me. For now on, I will just be posting on my family blog . It's a private blog, but send me a message or a request if you would like to view it. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my silly thoughts or look at pictures of my cute kiddo or some craft I made. It means a lot to me. Signing off, Jannifer

Things that brought me joy this week

This past week was Melina's birthday!  Since she lives far away, Talena and I put together a hula party in a box and mailed it to her.  We found all of these treasures at the dollar section at the front of Target.  My favorite moment was when we heard a lady gripe about how the discount section was full of a bunch of useless stuff that no one would buy.  At that very moment we turned the corner, with our hand basket full of awesome stuff we had found.  We just smiled. The party supplies The party agenda I was having a bit of a low evening and Danny suggested we go get my latest craving Sonic blasts.   (Ice cream + candy + whipped cream.)  I know you aren't supposed to feed sorrows with food, but this particular evening I made an exception.  Whoever made that Sonic blast was heaven sent.  It had more Reese's peanut butter cups than actual ice cream.  It's like they sensed my heavy heart and tried to heal it with choc...
