Half Birthdays are for Celebrating, part 2

I know what you are thinking, "Jannifer, do you really need to have two posts about your half birthday?"  The answer is yes, because it just made sense to split the post in half considering the topic.  So during the day at work on the day of celebrations, I found I had to watch hours of HR videos which needed very little attention to understand.  (That's a nice way to say they were really boring.)  So with my other half of wandering attention I decided to start searching YouTube for some new tunes.  Especially since I remember I still had a partial Amazon gift card that I could buy some music with.  I turned to some of my wise music friends who were online for their suggests.  They led me to some sweet songs which are now part of my collection.  A little half birthday gift to me and since I like to be giving, I shall share some of their suggestions with you.

Suggestion from Talena...

Suggestions from Eliza...

Suggestions from Julia...

Ok for this next video, I actually haven't bought Zee Avi's music yet, because Julia shared her music with me the day after my half birthday buying new music frenzy.  The song I love of the most is the first song on the video, but if you have time to watch the whole thing you should. Her music is chill and her voice is lovely.

I also bought some old tunes that I've loved for ages, but just haven't added to my collection, until now that is.  I had to share this song which I was introduced to during a road trip to Yosemite a few years ago.  I think it's so poetic.

  1. That's the first time I ever heard a song from Taylor Swift! My favorite is "Here We Are". I like both the message and the music.

  2. Thanks for sharing, Jannifer! I my favorite was Taylor's Swifts "The Civil Wars" - it was so lovely in such a sad sort of way. I also was impressed with Zee Avi's soulfull wide ranging rich voice.

  3. I've been singing "The Civil Wars - Safe and Sound" all weekend!! :) I love it! What part of The Hunger Games was it played? I can't remember.

  4. Mama Wood - I also like the message of "Here We Are", that's what hooked me to the song.

Becky - I think "Safe and Sound" plays at the very end of The Hunger Games movie during the closing credits.

  5. I think you are right! I just love it! I'm considering getting Taylor Swift's new album, RED. Are you familiar with any other songs that are on it?

  6. Becky - I only know two songs off her new album "Never, Ever, Ever Getting Back Together" which is so so and "Red" which I really like. You will have to tell me how the whole album is.

  7. If I get it, I'll let you know! :) So, is this Civil Wars song, not on the new album? I thought it was?

  8. Becky - I have no idea, but I'm guessing that it's probably just on the soundtrack.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

Birthday Week!

This week is my birthday week, or should I say birth week.  However that sounds too much like birthing is occurring and that is not the case.  (Don't get any ideas, Danny and I have only been married for 5.5 months.)  Anyway, I firmly believe in celebrating birthdays for the whole week, because why not? Talena and I have a tradition each year that is the kick off for my birthday celebration.  You see, Talena and I were born 12 days apart.  On the midpoint day between our birthdays we go out to dinner to celebrate.  We always try to go some where we have never been before.  This year we went to the Citrus Grill, which was very delicious.  (Special thanks to Eliza for recommending the place.)  We had fun dining, laughing and sharing secrets, because that is what girls do. My dinner...doesn't it just make your mouth water. Talena Balena and Me. PS  We did have a funny little mishap with the dessert.  We got strawbe...

One of Those Nights

You know the time when you turn the corner too sharp and gouge one of your toes on the retro 70's border that lines your home and apparently you have really good blood circulation in your feet, because your toe starts bleeding profusely.  In an effort to stop the bleeding, you limp to the kitchen to grab a paper towel to clean up your poor toe only to track blood all over the carpet.  (But then, luckily the husband comes and helps clean up the blood trail, your sad, little toe and gets you a band-aid.)  So once you have recovered from your messy injury, your really nice husband makes you a smoothie to make you feel better, only for you to drip it down the front of you on one of your favorite shirts.  Yeah, it's been one of those nights.  Sigh. In other news, last week I went to the musical "Little Women" with Talena.  I wrote a review for the Utah Theater Bloggers Association, which you can read here .  It's been awhile since I've done any reviewin...
