It Has Begun...

So, I'm one of those people who celebrates their birthday for a week (or longer).  I mean, really, why not?  It may sound a little selfish, but honestly, I'm happy to celebrate everyone's birthday for a week long.  It is such a great reason to get together with loved ones.  This year in particular seems to need some extra celebrating, since I'll be turning
30
this week.  Crazy, right? While hitting a new decade may feel a little weird, I have to say I'm quite pleased with my 20's.  I went on a mission (go England!), I graduated from college (go BYU!), I've been working in my place of employment for 5+ years and have had some great opportunities there, I met and married my stellar husband (go Danny!). I've also been on some awesome trips, met many amazing people and seen some pretty cool things.

Some people have made inquires concerning how I feel about turning 30.  Honestly, I'm fine with it.  Perhaps that is easy to say as I type this still being 29.  However, I feel like 29 is a fake 30 anyway.  To me, 29 feels like your pretending to still be in your 20's.  I say, bring it on!  I'm excited to see what this next decade has in store for me.

The opening ceremonies of my birthday celebration is the annual birthday dinner Talena and I have each year.  Since Talena's birthday is at the end of March and mine the beginning of April, we try to go out to eat on the midpoint date between our two birthdays.  We do this so we can tell the waiter it is both of our birthdays and both get a free dessert.  Genius, I know.  Ok, we've only done this once.  This year we went to Settabello's for some classy, Italian pizza.  Then we raided the Easter clearance shelves at Smith's and bought lots of half-priced Easter candy for dessert.

Talena looking quite ravishing.
I never know what to do with my hands in pictures.
The pizza I got was delish, but super spicy!
In continuing the birthday fun, my cute sister Noelle invited me out for dinner this weekend as my birthday present from her.  We went to this Indian place in Bountiful, mmmm, love Indian food.  I ate myself silly.  My newest nephew even accompanied us on our sister date and was a little angel.  We got frozen custard for dessert a bit later.  At this point, baby had had it and was letting us know.  However, this worked to our advantage, because they got the frozen custard out to us so quickly.  Good job, Baby C!

We found it quite appropriate for Baby C. to wear his elephant bib, since
that was the chosen decor at Royal India Restaurant.
Sometimes we mimic the artwork around us.  Thanks again Noelle for
dinner, you are too sweet!
And again, more mimicking, not mocking.  The korma was divine, in case
you were wondering.
See what I mean, perfect angel.
Thanks again to Noelle, Baby C. and Talena for taking the time to hang out with me and eat delicious food.  Love you all!

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

Birthday Week!

This week is my birthday week, or should I say birth week.  However that sounds too much like birthing is occurring and that is not the case.  (Don't get any ideas, Danny and I have only been married for 5.5 months.)  Anyway, I firmly believe in celebrating birthdays for the whole week, because why not? Talena and I have a tradition each year that is the kick off for my birthday celebration.  You see, Talena and I were born 12 days apart.  On the midpoint day between our birthdays we go out to dinner to celebrate.  We always try to go some where we have never been before.  This year we went to the Citrus Grill, which was very delicious.  (Special thanks to Eliza for recommending the place.)  We had fun dining, laughing and sharing secrets, because that is what girls do. My dinner...doesn't it just make your mouth water. Talena Balena and Me. PS  We did have a funny little mishap with the dessert.  We got strawbe...

One of Those Nights

You know the time when you turn the corner too sharp and gouge one of your toes on the retro 70's border that lines your home and apparently you have really good blood circulation in your feet, because your toe starts bleeding profusely.  In an effort to stop the bleeding, you limp to the kitchen to grab a paper towel to clean up your poor toe only to track blood all over the carpet.  (But then, luckily the husband comes and helps clean up the blood trail, your sad, little toe and gets you a band-aid.)  So once you have recovered from your messy injury, your really nice husband makes you a smoothie to make you feel better, only for you to drip it down the front of you on one of your favorite shirts.  Yeah, it's been one of those nights.  Sigh. In other news, last week I went to the musical "Little Women" with Talena.  I wrote a review for the Utah Theater Bloggers Association, which you can read here .  It's been awhile since I've done any reviewin...
