The Olympics!!!!

It is official, we are Olympic junkies in this household.  We are watching women's swimming as I speak.  I love the Olympics, especially that they are in England this year.  Not only am I constantly getting excitable by the competitions, but also when I see areas on screen that I recognize from England.  Honestly, I don't even care what sport it is, I love it all.  Which is so funny, because I'm not really a sporty person.  I just like seeing people living their dreams.  I've teared up more than once (or twice) for both the athletes who win and lose.  The Olympics, so emotional.  Anyway, to ring in the Olympics, I put together a fun British dinner for Danny and me while we watched the opening ceremonies.  Any excuse to eat English chocolate.

These are brought to you, well to me, by the London
Market in Salt Lake City.

Cheese scones from the British Market.

A popcorn "torch".

Danny raising his popcorn torch to the Olympics.

Dinner!  We had Indian food, because there is lots of
Indian food in England and I didn't feel like cooking
a proper English meal, which is roast, potatoes,
Yorkshire puddings, mushy peas and lots of gravy.
Maybe next time.

  5. I didn't see much of the Olympics this year, but I did enjoy the Mr. Bean segment in the opening ceremonies. I read that the London Market (is it in Trolley Square?)was doing great business because of the Olympics. I love your English flag and the popcorn torch, but what happened to the Union Jack?

  6. Camille - I knew you would understand the joy of English chocolate. Becky - I missed the first half of the ceremonies, so the main part we saw was the countries walking in, but it was still fun to celebrate. Heather - Why thank you and glad to hear you are enjoying the Olympics too. Mama Wood - I'm sure the London Market got great business with the Olympics being in London. They actually moved to a larger location by Liberty park. And I would have put up a Union Jack as well, except I don't own one.

  7. Katie - Thank you so much for understanding the joys of curly wurlys. If there ever was a chocolate bar that could make me swoon, it would be those. (Or Galaxy chocolate from the UK.) Also, thanks.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

The End of the Road

There is a time when things fulfill their purpose and that is how I've been feeling with this blog of mine. When I started it, I needed my own little spot to share my thoughts and random stuff I found online. However, having two blogs has become excessive. It has been a good run (me and this little blog) and thanks for joining me. For now on, I will just be posting on my family blog . It's a private blog, but send me a message or a request if you would like to view it. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my silly thoughts or look at pictures of my cute kiddo or some craft I made. It means a lot to me. Signing off, Jannifer

Things that brought me joy this week

This past week was Melina's birthday!  Since she lives far away, Talena and I put together a hula party in a box and mailed it to her.  We found all of these treasures at the dollar section at the front of Target.  My favorite moment was when we heard a lady gripe about how the discount section was full of a bunch of useless stuff that no one would buy.  At that very moment we turned the corner, with our hand basket full of awesome stuff we had found.  We just smiled. The party supplies The party agenda I was having a bit of a low evening and Danny suggested we go get my latest craving Sonic blasts.   (Ice cream + candy + whipped cream.)  I know you aren't supposed to feed sorrows with food, but this particular evening I made an exception.  Whoever made that Sonic blast was heaven sent.  It had more Reese's peanut butter cups than actual ice cream.  It's like they sensed my heavy heart and tried to heal it with choc...
