Things I've Been Loving Recently

#1  I really shouldn't number these, since I don't really love one more than the other, I just like order.  You could say I'm a bit of a proponent for introverts, since I am one.  I remember I took a personality test (Myers-Briggs) in my AP psychology class in high school and I was honestly shocked when I found out I was in the introversion category by a large degree.  This probably came by no surprise to my parents, since all during my youth I treasured my alone time.  However, to my teenage self I think I bought into the idea that the ideal characteristics, especially as a teen girl, were being bubbly, outgoing and fun-loving.  So I was determined to change.  There's nothing wrong in teaching myself to be more outgoing, the mission sure did that for me.  However, I don't think it is wise to try to change one's personality.  Luckily in my years since high school I have gained some wisdom and I'm much more comfortable in my introvert skin.  Anyway, I came across this TedTalk by Susan Cain concerning her research about introverts.  I love it so much.  I can definitely relate.

#2  This love is a bit more trivial than the last, but still holds a place in my heart.  So I really love cute, colorful front doors.  So much that I found myself during my last trip to England taking multiple pictures of people's darling doors.  How creepy is that, some tourist girl taking pictures of your front door?  But really, English villages have the most charming entryways, so who can blame me?  My front door is anything but charming, since we are in a rental.  However, someday I'm going to have a front door like one of these.  I found this website on pinterest this week and it just made me so happy.

Evidence of my UK door picture-taking days. I really
need to go back.  That's not a want, it's a need.

#3  I've always enjoyed a Taylor Swift tune here and there and I've always respected her as a musician since she writes all of her own music.  However, I've never been able to listen to her stuff on repeat, because her songs sometimes sounded too similar to me.  I only have a few of her songs in my music library because of this dilemma.  That is until I started listening to her new album Red on YouTube this past week.  I've become a huge fan, so much that I plan on buying the album at some point this week.  Who knew?

#4  This past weekend we were hit by a huge snowstorm.  We easily got over a foot and a half in 48 hours.  After being cooped up all day, Danny announced Saturday evening that he was hungry and needed to get out.  I agreed.  We bundled up and left into the snowy night on what we decided was going to be an adventure.  We found ourselves driving at slow speeds among a flurry of fat snowflakes to track down pie, the snack of choice for the evening.  Our trek ended at Marie Calendar's, because I insisted it would provide more tantalizing pies than those found at the grocery store.  Unfortunately they were out of pumpkin, our first choice.  We went with the over priced double cream blueberry which turned out oh-so-good.  I realize this broke my streak of no sugary treats.  (I didn't have any for August, September and most of October.)  However, I really love spontaneous outings with my husband, especially if it involves pie.

Comments

  1. The blueberry pie sounds so good. My favorite pie at Marie Calendars is sour cream lemon.

  2. Erin - I've had their sour cream pies before, but I don't know if I've tried the lemon. I'll have to put that on our list the next time we go on a pie run.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

The End of the Road

There is a time when things fulfill their purpose and that is how I've been feeling with this blog of mine. When I started it, I needed my own little spot to share my thoughts and random stuff I found online. However, having two blogs has become excessive. It has been a good run (me and this little blog) and thanks for joining me. For now on, I will just be posting on my family blog . It's a private blog, but send me a message or a request if you would like to view it. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my silly thoughts or look at pictures of my cute kiddo or some craft I made. It means a lot to me. Signing off, Jannifer

The Christmas Box

Remember how forever ago I said I would post a tutorial on how to fold these cute boxes.  Sigh, life is busy.  But I am here to fulfill my promise, even if it is a bit belated.  We had a Super Saturday at church with classes we could take.  My awesome friend, Becky, taught us how to create these, so I give her all the credit. What you need, paper, scissors, ruler pencil and some type of adhesive. 1.On the blank side of your paper draw an X from each corner, using a ruler. 2. Fold the bottom corner to the  center. 3. Fold the bottom corner one more  time up to the center. 4. Now you are  going to do the exact  two folds from steps 2 and 3 to the  opposing top corner, so your  paper will look like this. 5.  Unfold your paper and make the same folds to left and right corners that haven't been folded yet.  So once again, fold the point to the middle. 6.  Do a second fold to th...
