Castles, Callings and Thoughts

I have a lot on my mind right now.  I have for the past few days.  I'm not sure how to verbalize my thoughts, to be honest.  Just last week in my last post I was praising the ways of introversion.  My friend Talena and I often joke about our dream of being hermits and living in Bamburgh Castle (we stayed there on our trip to England), taking walks on the beach, wandering among the rolling green hills and occasionally having interaction with society.  (Don't worry, Danny is invited to be part of this dream.  I think he would be happy as long as he could bring his guitar.)  This dream sounds even more appealing since this past week I received a calling in my church congregation that is already stretching me in many ways.  Being outgoing is needed, teaching and speaking is required and it seems to be a whole lot of busy.  Don't get me wrong, I am excited.  I felt a little giddy when I was asked to fulfill this new role, since I knew I would be serving with a really good friend and a lot of fun times are sure to be in store.  However, after training on Sunday, the many feelings of inadequacy have set in.  Church callings are meant to humble us, right?  Good thing I have wise parents and a kind husband who have been a great support these past few days.

I'm in the midst of trying to process a large amount information, which was handed to me in a blue three ringed binder and a thick handbook. I'm looking forward to new found goals that have sparked motivation in me and will strengthen my spirituality. I'm trying to reconcile the need to teach the ideal, but understanding realism will strike and the ideal may not happen.  How do you prepare young minds for that?  I've had to face that in my own life and I wish I was given a little direction in those times.

I realize I'm being vague, like I said, I'm still processing.

  1. If I had seen this blog post first, I definitely would have pressed you to find out what the calling is! Callings are great for challenging us to get outside of our comfort zone.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

Birthday Week!

This week is my birthday week, or should I say birth week.  However that sounds too much like birthing is occurring and that is not the case.  (Don't get any ideas, Danny and I have only been married for 5.5 months.)  Anyway, I firmly believe in celebrating birthdays for the whole week, because why not? Talena and I have a tradition each year that is the kick off for my birthday celebration.  You see, Talena and I were born 12 days apart.  On the midpoint day between our birthdays we go out to dinner to celebrate.  We always try to go some where we have never been before.  This year we went to the Citrus Grill, which was very delicious.  (Special thanks to Eliza for recommending the place.)  We had fun dining, laughing and sharing secrets, because that is what girls do. My dinner...doesn't it just make your mouth water. Talena Balena and Me. PS  We did have a funny little mishap with the dessert.  We got strawbe...

Half Birthdays are for Celebrating, part 2

I know what you are thinking, "Jannifer, do you really need to have two posts about your half birthday?"  The answer is yes, because it just made sense to split the post in half considering the topic.  So during the day at work on the day of celebrations, I found I had to watch hours of HR videos which needed very little attention to understand.   (That's a nice way to say they were really boring.)  So with my other half of wandering attention I decided to start searching YouTube for some new tunes.  Especially since I remember I still had a partial Amazon gift card that I could buy some music with.  I turned to some of my wise music friends who were online for their suggests.  They led me to some sweet songs which are now part of my collection.  A little half birthday gift to me and since I like to be giving, I shall share some of their suggestions with you. Suggestion from Talena... Suggestions from Eliza... Suggestions from J...
