Books, Couch Blessings and Secret Lakes

This past week was an eventful one.  First off, I want to send out a major congrats to my cousin Charity who just published her first novel, Ten Girls to Watch. It is getting really good reviews and I'm super excited to read it myself.  I went to a book reading featuring Charity at the Centerville Library.  Charity was charming as always and read a few sections of her book that had me cracking up.  Our family really likes to be witty.  I highly recommend you check her book out!  Plus, the main character, Dawn, is a tall red head, so you really can't go wrong there.

Cousins!
My second adventure from this week was buying a new couch!  Danny and I have had this little Ikea love seat that we both barely fit on.  We decided now that we are close to 2 years of marriage, it is time to upgrade.  We went to various stores and checked our options.  We fell in love with this lovely sofa...

Isn't it a beauty?  It's so soft and plush, plus it is big enough to stretch and take a nap on!  Something that is a difficult feat on our little couch now.  We had some miscommunication with the sales guy.  We thought this couch was available to take the next day since it was on clearance.  We showed up the next day with a UHaul truck only to find out this particular couch was out of stock in the back and we had to wait 2 weeks for it to get here.  We were bummed for sure and I told Danny we should just go with our second favorite which was at a different store, since we had the truck that day.  The sales guy really wanted a sale, so he asked us how much the truck cost us to rent, which was $40.  He went and talked to his manager and took $40 off the couch to help pay for our troubles.  The best part was when Danny returned the truck, the guy at the UHaul place remarked "That was quick."  Danny explained to him what had happened and the guy at the UHaul place decided not to charge us for the truck, except for the miles, so it was only $13.  We got almost $30 off our couch and I wasn't even trying to haggle!  How awesome is that?!

Also, a couple of weeks I had a sweet visit with nature up in the peaks of the Big Cottonwood Canyon.  We hiked up to Cecret Lake (pronounced secret, because it is kind of hidden).  Here are a couple of my favorite nature shots from that hike.

  1. Awesome DEAL-e-OH on your couch!! Sorry you have to wait a while for it, but at least you saved some money! It looks super comfy and I have a feeling will be the new favorite spot for naps from now on...

Congrats to your cousin on the publication of her new book! Awesome!

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

The End of the Road

There is a time when things fulfill their purpose and that is how I've been feeling with this blog of mine. When I started it, I needed my own little spot to share my thoughts and random stuff I found online. However, having two blogs has become excessive. It has been a good run (me and this little blog) and thanks for joining me. For now on, I will just be posting on my family blog . It's a private blog, but send me a message or a request if you would like to view it. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my silly thoughts or look at pictures of my cute kiddo or some craft I made. It means a lot to me. Signing off, Jannifer

Hello Sunshine

I've had the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron on my bookshelf for a couple of years now. It is a program that is supposed to connect you to your inner creativity. It may sound a little out there, but sometimes I try out there stuff. So after reading the first chapter, I thought, why not? Creative endeavors always feed my soul and as of late, my soul needs some feeding. Part of the program is to take yourself on a weekly artist date. Dating myself to connect to my inner creativity? Younger versions of myself may have laughed at this, but the mom version of myself is excited about the idea of time alone .  In pure defiance of the snow I have seen almost daily for months, for my first artist date, I decided to get a pedicure. I mostly was there for the foot massage, but I figured if I make my toes sandal ready, then surely the weather will take the hint and spring will start making its appearance. (I know, I know, we need the snow, we are in a drought. All the lakes a d...
