Hello Sunshine

I've had the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron on my bookshelf for a couple of years now. It is a program that is supposed to connect you to your inner creativity. It may sound a little out there, but sometimes I try out there stuff. So after reading the first chapter, I thought, why not? Creative endeavors always feed my soul and as of late, my soul needs some feeding. Part of the program is to take yourself on a weekly artist date. Dating myself to connect to my inner creativity? Younger versions of myself may have laughed at this, but the mom version of myself is excited about the idea of time alone

In pure defiance of the snow I have seen almost daily for months, for my first artist date, I decided to get a pedicure. I mostly was there for the foot massage, but I figured if I make my toes sandal ready, then surely the weather will take the hint and spring will start making its appearance. (I know, I know, we need the snow, we are in a drought. All the lakes a drying up. I’m grateful. I really am! I just need a little warmth.)⁣

After getting my little toes painted and pretty, I decided to wander around the library, which was right next door. I wasn’t even sure what I was looking for. I have five books at home waiting for me on my nightstand. I figured maybe I would look for a book with a pretty cover. The spine of this book (pictured) caught my eye. I pulled it out and do you see what the title is?! ⁣

“I’ll Give You The Sun”⁣

Seriously. Forget the groundhog as a weather forecaster. I now have full confidence in my pedicure plans and the magic of the library. ⁣

If I start using the library as my personal magic 8 ball and start pulling out random books to answer my life questions, you now know why.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

Birthday Week!

This week is my birthday week, or should I say birth week.  However that sounds too much like birthing is occurring and that is not the case.  (Don't get any ideas, Danny and I have only been married for 5.5 months.)  Anyway, I firmly believe in celebrating birthdays for the whole week, because why not? Talena and I have a tradition each year that is the kick off for my birthday celebration.  You see, Talena and I were born 12 days apart.  On the midpoint day between our birthdays we go out to dinner to celebrate.  We always try to go some where we have never been before.  This year we went to the Citrus Grill, which was very delicious.  (Special thanks to Eliza for recommending the place.)  We had fun dining, laughing and sharing secrets, because that is what girls do. My dinner...doesn't it just make your mouth water. Talena Balena and Me. PS  We did have a funny little mishap with the dessert.  We got strawbe...

8 Months!

Smiling at Daddy Showing Mr. Lion who's boss. Milestones: New food this month: Carrots, Peas, Oatmeal, Prunes, Green beans, Squash He's really interested in making different noises and sounds with his mouth. I feel like he is watching us intently trying to figure it out. ("It" meaning talking.) He hasn't started to crawl yet, but he has gotten up on all fours. He finally rolled from his back to his stomach. He's been rolling the other way for months now. He doesn't like being on his stomach, so he avoided rolling to that position for a really long time. First St. Patrick's Day, because that's a big deal. Likes: At the beginning of the month, he liked to grab my face and bring it really close to his and yell. Apparently, it is a fun game. His favorite toys are his toy guitar from his Aunt Michele, his toy car from his Aunt Katie and Uncle Tim and he really likes his stackable rings. The vacuum. It is a fascinating specime...
