Latest Happenings

Since I have been blogging about my travels this past week, I'm a little bit behind on updating about my life since I've been home.  So in no particular order, ummm, here's some stuff...

My latest craft:

This funny little creation is something I came up with for my dad for Father's Day.  My dad is a huge golfing fan, so I was trying to figure out how could I creatively give him golf balls and tees as a gift.  I put together this golfing bouquet, which is more like a golfing shrub.  My dad loved it, so that is what is important.  Here is how I made it, if you are interested.

Materials:
  • 6'' clay pot
  • 5'' floral styrofoam ball
  • 3'' paper cups (about 20)
  • Acrylic craft paint (I used green to match the golfing theme)
  • Golf balls (about 20)
  • 100 golf tees
  • Ribbon
It actually was not that hard.  I cut little holes in the bottom of the cups.  Then I painted them green and let them dry.  Once the cups were dry, I put the golf tees through the holes in the cups and stuck the cups into the styrofoam ball.  Then I put the golf balls in the cups.  Next, I stuck the tees around the cups in the ball, so it looked more like a bouquet.  Last, I put the styrofoam ball into the clay pot, tied a ribbon around and was done!

My latest TV experience:

I was watching the Olympic swimming trials last night and during every race, there were tears!  Not the athletes, mind you, but from me!  I couldn't help it.  There was crying for those who made the Olympics to fulfill their dreams and crying for those who didn't.  Seriously, I don't know how I'm going to handle the actual Olympics this year.  Then Danny put on "Ghostbusters" to make me feel better.

My latest commune with nature:

Earlier this week, Danny and I went on a hike up to Silver Lake with Danny's sister, her kids and his mom who was in town.  It was such a lovely evening.  Plus it was way cooler (temperature wise and scenic wise) than down at our house, so that was a plus.

Silver Lake looking all silvery.
I have my ducks in a row.  Apparently, I'm possessive of
the ducks at Silver Lake and consider them my own.
High on the mountain top!
My honey and Me!

  1. I like your pictures from Silver Lake. You make it appear more as I remember it from years ago than the way I remember from last week.

  2. Golfing shrub! That is so great that you were able to make a sort of standby gift something special and fun!

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

The End of the Road

There is a time when things fulfill their purpose and that is how I've been feeling with this blog of mine. When I started it, I needed my own little spot to share my thoughts and random stuff I found online. However, having two blogs has become excessive. It has been a good run (me and this little blog) and thanks for joining me. For now on, I will just be posting on my family blog . It's a private blog, but send me a message or a request if you would like to view it. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my silly thoughts or look at pictures of my cute kiddo or some craft I made. It means a lot to me. Signing off, Jannifer

The Christmas Box

Remember how forever ago I said I would post a tutorial on how to fold these cute boxes.  Sigh, life is busy.  But I am here to fulfill my promise, even if it is a bit belated.  We had a Super Saturday at church with classes we could take.  My awesome friend, Becky, taught us how to create these, so I give her all the credit. What you need, paper, scissors, ruler pencil and some type of adhesive. 1.On the blank side of your paper draw an X from each corner, using a ruler. 2. Fold the bottom corner to the  center. 3. Fold the bottom corner one more  time up to the center. 4. Now you are  going to do the exact  two folds from steps 2 and 3 to the  opposing top corner, so your  paper will look like this. 5.  Unfold your paper and make the same folds to left and right corners that haven't been folded yet.  So once again, fold the point to the middle. 6.  Do a second fold to th...
