Tunes, The BBC and V-day

I was recently introduced to William Fitzsimmons's music by the husband.  Love.  His voice is haunting and soothing.  His lyrics are poetic and thought provoking.  Overall his music is sad, but I'm one of those weird people who likes sad music.

Another thing I've been loving: the BBC show Sherlock.  It is Sherlock Holmes in modern day.  It is a clever and intense show.  There are only 3 episodes on Netflix, but it is worth watching.  You can also watch it on pbs.org.  I hear the second season is on over in England, hopefully they will share with us soon.

Speaking of the BBC, I'm sure you all have heard of the craze about Downton Abbey.  Yes, I've been watching it as well. Anyway, someone posted these Downtown Abbey paper dolls and I thought they were hilarious.

I thought about doing a post on Valentine's Day, but I decided I'd mash it in with this post.  My conclusion about Valentine's Day this year was that it was a bit weird, in the sense of being off.  Danny and I celebrated Valentine's Day the Saturday before which included sleeping in, flowers, cinnamon rolls for breakfast, the cleaning of the house by the husband, a stroll around the mall, going out to eat for dinner and ice cream!
The actual day of Valentine's was hard.  I was informed in the afternoon that one of my mission friends had passed away.  Christian was AP of our mission and someone I really looked up to.  He and his wife got married just a few months before Danny and I did.  It was difficult news to hear and my heart goes out to his family, especially his wife.  I ended up working late because I had to pick up props for a production the next day.  My phone died during my errands and I got stuck in traffic so I had worried family members not knowing where I was.  Danny went to a concert that evening as one of his birthday gifts (the reason we celebrated Valentine's Day on Saturday).  I wasn't interested in going, so he went with his best friend.  I had made plans to hang out with my best bud as well.  I finally made it to Talena's house an hour late in a bit of an emotional state.  Being the good friend Talena is, she made a heart-shaped pizza for dinner and then we chatted and ate chocolate, which was very therapeutic.  Thanks Talena.

  1. I am so sorry to hear about your friend. That is so difficult. Thank you for being such a wonderful hostess and for braving the snow this morning. I hope you didn't have any adventures on your way home.

  2. So sorry about your friend; how tragic!
    That's a cute heart pizza.
I love the Downton Abbey paper dolls, but I can't believe they didn't include Anna and Mr. Bates or Edith.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue the circles to the foam tree in

Birthday Week!

This week is my birthday week, or should I say birth week.  However that sounds too much like birthing is occurring and that is not the case.  (Don't get any ideas, Danny and I have only been married for 5.5 months.)  Anyway, I firmly believe in celebrating birthdays for the whole week, because why not? Talena and I have a tradition each year that is the kick off for my birthday celebration.  You see, Talena and I were born 12 days apart.  On the midpoint day between our birthdays we go out to dinner to celebrate.  We always try to go some where we have never been before.  This year we went to the Citrus Grill, which was very delicious.  (Special thanks to Eliza for recommending the place.)  We had fun dining, laughing and sharing secrets, because that is what girls do. My dinner...doesn't it just make your mouth water. Talena Balena and Me. PS  We did have a funny little mishap with the dessert.  We got strawberries and whipped cream.  It look delightful when they b

One of Those Nights

You know the time when you turn the corner too sharp and gouge one of your toes on the retro 70's border that lines your home and apparently you have really good blood circulation in your feet, because your toe starts bleeding profusely.  In an effort to stop the bleeding, you limp to the kitchen to grab a paper towel to clean up your poor toe only to track blood all over the carpet.  (But then, luckily the husband comes and helps clean up the blood trail, your sad, little toe and gets you a band-aid.)  So once you have recovered from your messy injury, your really nice husband makes you a smoothie to make you feel better, only for you to drip it down the front of you on one of your favorite shirts.  Yeah, it's been one of those nights.  Sigh. In other news, last week I went to the musical "Little Women" with Talena.  I wrote a review for the Utah Theater Bloggers Association, which you can read here .  It's been awhile since I've done any reviewing for th
