7 Months!

Milestones
  • Baby H is sitting up like a champ.
  • He's tried a few more different types of food: Sweet Potatoes, Avocados, Apple Sauce and Pears
  • He turns pages in his books and he grabbed the spoon and fed himself the other day.
  • He has just started to wave at people.
  • First time on an airplane! Overall, he handled it really well.
  • First time to a new state, which was Texas. (It was my first time to Texas too.) We went for Danny's brother's wedding.
Likes
  • He is really liking his little jumper activity center. He doesn't really jump in it, though. He more tries to walk and is bounced around.
  • His toes! And putting those toes in his mouth.
  • Grunting, yelling, making noise in general. He can be a very loud baby.
  • He thinks it is hilarious when I pretend to eat his hands.
  • FaceTime! He's grabs for my phone all the time now if he sees it.
  • He's especially liking books this month. When he's sad, we sit down and read a few, and it calms him down. He likes to turn the pages himself and sometimes tries eating them as well.
  • When I'm holding him and he is tired, I stroke his little face. It kind of puts him in a trance, it relaxes him so much.

Dislikes

  • He gets mad and cries every night when I put him in his pajamas. I think he has figured out it means bedtime.
  • Takeoffs and landings. I tried to nurse him so it didn't hurt his ears as much, but he still was pretty upset about it.
  • All food that isn't his mommy's milk or rice cereal, but we keep trying. And now for a table of the levels of disgust concerning solid food. He's tried each of these foods 4-5 times.
Most Disgusting
|
Apple Sauce and Pears
(Level: Mouth clamped shut, none of that stuff is getting in.)
|
Bananas
(Level: Will be allowed into mouth, but promptly spat out.)
|
Sweet Potatoes
(Level: Will allow in mouth and sometimes swallow, but gagging may occur.)
|
Avocados
(Level: Will eat and swallow, but will grimace with each bite.)
|
Least Disgusting (but still disgusting)

A Few Tidbits
  • I love his little babbling and laughing. It's so cute.
  • As mentioned above, it has been a funny experience trying to get this boy to try baby food. However, I have found if I sing to him, he is more likely to open his mouth, Mainly because it distracts him. He's very particular, because not any song will do. I've tried multiple songs, but the songs he will eat to are as follows: "The Wheels on the Bus", "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam", "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" and "Once There was a Snowman".
  • He can't talk yet, of course, but he will make the sounds for Uh-Uh and Uh-Huh and sometimes has impeccable timing with these new sounds. One day I was nursing him. He doesn't like any noise when nursing, especially if I talk. Danny came home and I was asking him something. Baby promptly stopped eating and just stared at me. I looked down and said jokingly, "I'm sorry, am I interrupting you?" He replied, "Uh-Huh" and went back to eating, that is until Danny and I couldn't stop laughing and he stopped again trying to figure out what was going on.
  • He also makes the sound for Mama when he is crying, but again I don't think he knows what it means yet.
  • He got to meet his Florida cousins, his Kansas cousins, his Uncle Tim and his new Aunt Brisa at the wedding, which was a lot of fun.
  • He saw bubbles for the first time at the wedding and was fascinated by them. He would reach out his cute, chubby hands to try and grab them. It was darling.
  • He also got to play on grass for the first time on a warm day at the park.  He was very interested by it.
  • Remember that one time I said it seems he favors his left hand. I take that back. He uses his left and right hand equally.

  2. Well, his dad loved apples, bananas and pears. I suggest feeding him apricots while you sing "Popcorn Popping" and try pears and bananas again while you sing "I like to Eat Apples and Bananas". Be sure to do all of the vowel sounds. Danny used to love that song.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

The End of the Road

There is a time when things fulfill their purpose and that is how I've been feeling with this blog of mine. When I started it, I needed my own little spot to share my thoughts and random stuff I found online. However, having two blogs has become excessive. It has been a good run (me and this little blog) and thanks for joining me. For now on, I will just be posting on my family blog . It's a private blog, but send me a message or a request if you would like to view it. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my silly thoughts or look at pictures of my cute kiddo or some craft I made. It means a lot to me. Signing off, Jannifer

The Christmas Box

Remember how forever ago I said I would post a tutorial on how to fold these cute boxes.  Sigh, life is busy.  But I am here to fulfill my promise, even if it is a bit belated.  We had a Super Saturday at church with classes we could take.  My awesome friend, Becky, taught us how to create these, so I give her all the credit. What you need, paper, scissors, ruler pencil and some type of adhesive. 1.On the blank side of your paper draw an X from each corner, using a ruler. 2. Fold the bottom corner to the  center. 3. Fold the bottom corner one more  time up to the center. 4. Now you are  going to do the exact  two folds from steps 2 and 3 to the  opposing top corner, so your  paper will look like this. 5.  Unfold your paper and make the same folds to left and right corners that haven't been folded yet.  So once again, fold the point to the middle. 6.  Do a second fold to th...
