6 Months!

Milestones
  • We are making some head way with sleep. He will sleep in 4-6 hour chunks at night only waking up once or twice to be fed and he's going to bed earlier, around 9pm. (It used to be midnight and before that, 3am. The joys of having a baby with their days and nights switched.) This all only happens if we let him sleep in swing.
  • Baby H. has found his feet this month and likes to play with his cute little toes.
  • He's been rolling over more, but lately he's more interested in trying to army crawl. He hasn't been able to travel too far, but it is pretty cute to see him try.
  • He's had his first solid food. He is now an eater of rice cereal and has tried bananas.
  • He's getting better at sitting up on his own. He's still a little wobbly and needs some support, but I think he will get it down soon.
  • Stats from his 6 month appointment:
    • Length - 24 inches (.07 percentile)
    • Weight - 13 lbs 12 oz (1.41 percentile)
    • Head Circumference - 16.75 inches (24.67 percentile)
    • So baby boy hasn't grown much since his 4 month appointment. The doctor said he isn't worried, because he's healthy, but we are going to supplement more with formula (which baby hates) and more solid food, so hopefully that will put a little more weight on this cute boy.

Likes
  • Kicking off his socks
  • Screaming really loud (both with glee and frustration.)
  • Playing peek-a-boo
  • Rice Cereal!
  • Dancing around the living room with his mom to whatever song she can think of off the top of her head. Christmas Carols, Hymns, T. Swift, all music is dancing music in this house.
  • Putting his hand in mommy's or daddy's mouths or putting mommy's or daddy's hand in his mouth.

Dislikes
  • Still hates being put down for naps and bedtime, especially if it is in the crib.
  • The clipping of his fingernails.
  • Bananas. He wasn't a fan.

A Few Tidbits
  • He likes sticking out his tongue and this has progressed to spitting all the time.
  • His favorite book is Baby Faces that his cousins in Kansas sent him. He also really likes his Little Critter books.
  • His favorite song is "The Wheels on the Bus". A couple times a day I'll prop him up against my legs and sing to him while pumping his leg. Let's be honest, I sing to this kid all day long. If he grows up thinking life is a musical, this is probably the reason why. He also likes "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" and music by Coldplay.
  • His hair is growing in quite a bit and it sticks straight up. It is coming in brown, but I feel it has a tint of red when in the light, or that may just be wishful thinking. His fuzzy, little head is the cutest thing.
  • His eyes are in the process of changing color. I'm not sure what color they will end up being. Right now they look blue/gray like his dad's, but some days they look greenish, like mine, so we shall see.
  • I think stranger danger is starting to set in a little bit. He will go to other people, but he likes his mommy or daddy nearby. When I let other people hold him, he gives me this look that seems to say, "Mom, is this really a good idea? Don't you think we should have talked about this first, perhaps had some type of vote?" He says a lot with his looks.
  • This baby boy is moving all the time. Even when we sit down to read books, he's kicking his legs and patting the pages. He also likes me moving all the time, because sitting down is boring. This makes church a bit of an adventure. I'm a little nervous when this kiddo becomes mobile. Did I mention hyper-activity runs in my family?
  • He really is such a happy baby boy. He gives the cutest smiles. I get stopped all the time and told what a cute baby I have. I'm really bad at being humble and just saying thank you. I usually say, "I know, right!?" I need to work on that.

  1. Thanks for the updates. He is such a cutie. And don't feel bad about his size; his daddy was always on the short end of the percentiles too. I think he looks perfectly healthy. So glad he's sleeping a little better too.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue the circles to the foam tree in

2013 - The Year of Grace

I know we are well into 2014, but I'm still in the midst of recounting last year and making goals for this year. As I've looked back on and thought about 2013, I have to admit it has been a rocky year. However, during some of these hard times, I feel like Danny and I have drawn even closer in our marriage. I sure love that man of mine. I really think what makes a strong marriage is facing the tough stuff together. I have also grown closer to my Savior, though at times it didn't always feel like it, which I will discuss more below. I can honestly say, this year has whittled me down to a rather more fragile version of myself.  I think that is what being humbled is.  I have been humbled.  I’m still working on being humble. I think with this past year, I’m understanding more what grace is.  I think you have to experience a lowly place to even feel the need for grace.  I agree with the common phrase: “Do your best.” However, I don’t think we always understand what ou

This Weekend

This weekend was a whirlwind experience.  I realize I could split this up into like 4 or 5 different posts, but I'm just going to do one big, long post.  So get a snack, get comfortable and prepare yourselves. Friday Night:  Danny's Concert with his friends, The Atomic Thunderlips Danny performed up at the Layton amphitheater and rocked the house!  I really mean that, he did such  a fantastic job.  He opened for his friends, The Atomic Thunderlips, who also put on an awesome show. I had great fun clapping along to the music with my nephews who came and being a bit of a proud wife in the audience.  We all went out for a late night dinner at Iggy's afterwards, which showed me that I'm not in college anymore, because I got heartburn afterwards.   (Growing old, sigh.) Members of the family that came to support! Me and my nephew Dr. C before the concert. The boys clapping along. He can play with his eyes closed, he's that good. Danny the guitar man
