Tidbits

Here are a few tidbits from my life recently...

On Sunday I had a conversation with two boys in our primary class (ages 9) that went something like this:
Boy #1:  Did you know that boys actually cry more than girls?
Me:  Why is that?
Boy #1:  Because girls can hit boys, but boys can't hit girls so boys end up getting hurt more.
Me (chuckling to myself):  Well it's true that you shouldn't hit girls, but girls shouldn't hit boys either unless it is in self defense.
Boy #2:  What am I supposed to do if I see a girl rob a bank?
Me:  Ummm, perhaps trip her and call the police.
The boys seemed pleased with this answer.  I filling these kids' heads with such uplifting advice.

Happy Chinese New Year (yesterday)!  I like the Chinese New Year for a couple of reasons.  First off, it is a holiday and I love holidays.  Second, if you have been slacking on your New Year resolutions, it is a second New Year to get back on board.  Now isn't that convenient.  Third, I read the following on Wikipedia: "The Chinese New Year tradition is to reconcile, forget all grudges and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone"  Isn't that nice, a holiday all about forgiveness.  I liked that.  This year is the year of the Dragon, which is considered the luckiest year in the Chinese zodiac.  You can learn more about the Year of the Dragon here, but in summary it is associated with wealth and power and brings growth and change.  Sounds good to me.  I really wanted to celebrate the Chinese New Year yesterday, but we didn't have a lot of free time to do so.  However, I made sure to listen to Imagine Dragons on repeat, because it seemed fitting.

Speaking of holidays, Danny sent me a message earlier today wishing me a Happy National Peanut Butter Day and told me he had a surprise for me at home to celebrate.  (Which I assume will some how incorporate peanut butter, we shall see.)  Yay, husband!  I think I have finally converted him to celebrating random holidays.

I helped a little bit with this Mormon Message about temples.  I had the chance to talk with the family who President Monson shares about.  They were some of the most inspiring people.  I thought the message turned out beautifully.

I think that is about it for now.  In case anyone is wondering, today is a Something Corporate day on iTunes.  I was feeling a little nostalgic.

PS  "Cowboys and Aliens" was a little weird, but entertaining.  I liked the thinking outside of the box aspect to the movie.  I mean, why not have aliens come during the Old West times.

  1. Don't you just love teaching Primary?
So I'm wondering if that peanut butter surprise included Nutty Buddies or Haystacks, two of Danny's favorites. And I'm glad we've entered the year of the dragon. We can all use a holiday about forgiveness.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

The End of the Road

There is a time when things fulfill their purpose and that is how I've been feeling with this blog of mine. When I started it, I needed my own little spot to share my thoughts and random stuff I found online. However, having two blogs has become excessive. It has been a good run (me and this little blog) and thanks for joining me. For now on, I will just be posting on my family blog . It's a private blog, but send me a message or a request if you would like to view it. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my silly thoughts or look at pictures of my cute kiddo or some craft I made. It means a lot to me. Signing off, Jannifer

Things that brought me joy this week

This past week was Melina's birthday!  Since she lives far away, Talena and I put together a hula party in a box and mailed it to her.  We found all of these treasures at the dollar section at the front of Target.  My favorite moment was when we heard a lady gripe about how the discount section was full of a bunch of useless stuff that no one would buy.  At that very moment we turned the corner, with our hand basket full of awesome stuff we had found.  We just smiled. The party supplies The party agenda I was having a bit of a low evening and Danny suggested we go get my latest craving Sonic blasts.   (Ice cream + candy + whipped cream.)  I know you aren't supposed to feed sorrows with food, but this particular evening I made an exception.  Whoever made that Sonic blast was heaven sent.  It had more Reese's peanut butter cups than actual ice cream.  It's like they sensed my heavy heart and tried to heal it with choc...
