Christmas Things

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in these parts, especially since we got a big snowstorm this weekend.  I don't like being cold, but I do think the landscape looks much prettier with snow, so it's a fair trade off.  During the past couple of weeks Danny and I have been part of quite the holiday festivities.  There is more to come, but here is what we have done so far.

Temple Square Lights

We went down among the masses to enjoy the Christmas lights on Temple Square along with my fabulous past roommates Rachel and Melissa plus their families.  It was so great to spend some time with them and their spouses.

I just love these girls.  Me, Rachel
and Melissa.

Me and the husband.

First Presidency Christmas Devotional

Danny and I didn't actually attended the devotional, but instead we sat at home and watched the broadcast.  (This way I can sit on my couch in my pajama pants and munch on quesadillas while enjoying the great messages.  Such behavior is usually frowned upon when visiting the Conference Center.)  Nothing brings the Christmas spirit into your home like the MoTab singing Christmas carols and the wisdom shared by the First Presidency.  I particularly liked President Uchtdorf's talk about being a grateful receiver.  You can listen to all the talks and music here.

Getting a Christmas Tree

We get a real tree every year, because a.) we don't have room to store a fake one, b.) they aren't too expensive and c.) the smell is A.MAZ.ING.  I love the piney freshness that greets my nose each time I enter our home.

Handsome Tree, Handsome Man.

Hanging ornaments with care.

Our family tradition is to get ornaments from each place we go on
vacation together.  Our latest addition is this little boat ornament from
Newport Beach, which we visited earlier this year.

The finished product.  I think it could use more lights,
but I still like it.

Utah Chamber Artists Choir Christmas Concert

We have this fabulous friend, Laura, who is part of the Utah Chamber Artists.  Being the super cool person she is, she got us tickets to their Christmas Choir Concert.  The music was heavenly.  Plus, the conductor got up and led those of us in the crowd to some Christmas carols before the show.  The orchestra played along.  Do you know how cool it is to sing along with an orchestra!?  It gave me chills.

Program and Ticket in hand.

Family Nativity

Every year we have a big Christmas dinner with my uncles, aunts, cousins and their families.  Afterwards the kids dress up and act out the nativity.  It is beyond adorable and there are usually some surprise guests that don't often get mentioned in the biblical account.

Little Super R in a moment of pondering.

What darling wise men.

King E the shepherd, General J the sheep, Dr. C and Super R as the Wise
Men and B. Anu the Power Ranger in footie pajamas.

Ry-guy the little lamb grazing on the
multiple options of candy.

I thought this was super cute of Ry-guy and Danny
playing the piano together.

  1. Okay, so I'm trying to think of where you and Danny can get your Florida Christmas ornament. I'm thinking Panama City, when we go to the beach! :) OR we can make one - of a special sea shell you find on the beach...cool idea, huh? (and free!)

  2. Since you'll be here after Christmas I bet you can get a bargain on a Natchitoches City of Lights ornament.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

The End of the Road

There is a time when things fulfill their purpose and that is how I've been feeling with this blog of mine. When I started it, I needed my own little spot to share my thoughts and random stuff I found online. However, having two blogs has become excessive. It has been a good run (me and this little blog) and thanks for joining me. For now on, I will just be posting on my family blog . It's a private blog, but send me a message or a request if you would like to view it. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my silly thoughts or look at pictures of my cute kiddo or some craft I made. It means a lot to me. Signing off, Jannifer

Things that brought me joy this week

This past week was Melina's birthday!  Since she lives far away, Talena and I put together a hula party in a box and mailed it to her.  We found all of these treasures at the dollar section at the front of Target.  My favorite moment was when we heard a lady gripe about how the discount section was full of a bunch of useless stuff that no one would buy.  At that very moment we turned the corner, with our hand basket full of awesome stuff we had found.  We just smiled. The party supplies The party agenda I was having a bit of a low evening and Danny suggested we go get my latest craving Sonic blasts.   (Ice cream + candy + whipped cream.)  I know you aren't supposed to feed sorrows with food, but this particular evening I made an exception.  Whoever made that Sonic blast was heaven sent.  It had more Reese's peanut butter cups than actual ice cream.  It's like they sensed my heavy heart and tried to heal it with choc...
