Heads, Nephews and Music Videos!

So a few things…

Last weekend Danny and I had a date for scalp treatments at the local cosmetology school.  I realize “scalp treatment” sounds like we have some type head disease, but this is not so.  A scalp treatment is a half an hour head massage and it only costs like $6-$8 at the beauty schools in our area.  (They cost a lot more if you go to a spa.)  Plus, they styled my hair afterwards.  It was A.MAZ.ING!  I just wanted to share the joy, because I feel you too should have such joy. 

Now for something not so amazing, I had to use 1.5 sick days this week and camp out in my bed.  Other than my stomach and I being in a fight, it wasn’t all bad: sleeping in, writing in my journal, reading.  It was nice to have a slow day to actually enjoy such mentioned activities.  I’m feeling better; however, I still don't have an appetite.  I hope that subsides by next week with Thanksgiving and all!

Last night we visited my brother Tim, his lovely wife Katie and the kiddos.  Oh my goodness I have darling nephews.  While Tim and Danny jammed, I watched a Disney commercial “documentary” on Netflix with C-Man, who is almost 4.  He is an inquisitive and super bright child.  He had to know which rides I had been on, which rides scared me, which rides Danny had been on, if I knew how to surf, if Danny knew how to surf, if I had been parasailing (What 3.75-year-old knows what parasailing is!?) and so forth.  It was hilarious.  Little Ry Guy (18 months) was also my little buddy.  We read books, played with cars and made animal noises together.  When he wanted to be mischievous, he would track down the remote and pause the Disney show, which caused great annoyance from his older brother.  (Little Ry is also a very bright child.)  I also had a great chat with Katie.  And now a little plug for my sister-in-law, go check out her food blog Dip it in Chocolate.  She is a master of all things sweet and has the best recipes.  Plus, she is such a great writer; her stories crack me up.  Enjoy!

One last thing, so Danny and I made a music video.  I’m being honest when I say that I’m super hesitant to post it.   Danny is the rock star, but he needed a vocalist…so I tried.  Here is our cover of “America” by Imagine Dragons.  (I’ve already been told by two different family members that I need to smile more… people, this song is about America, that is serious stuff!)

    The scalp treatments weren't for lice were they? Just Kidding! So Jannifer, what is para-sailing like? I sure don't know. It seems funny that you should be criticized for not smiling. You almost always make me smile!

    haha, YOU crack me up. And you are so sweet. Also I completely love scalp massages. Although the name does sound freaky. Do you ever wish Danny went to masseuse school? Sometimes I wish that... (but Tim not Danny)

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. Things that brought me joy this week

This past week was Melina's birthday!  Since she lives far away, Talena and I put together a hula party in a box and mailed it to her.  We found all of these treasures at the dollar section at the front of Target.  My favorite moment was when we heard a lady gripe about how the discount section was full of a bunch of useless stuff that no one would buy.  At that very moment we turned the corner, with our hand basket full of awesome stuff we had found.  We just smiled. Hello Sunshine

  I've had the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron on my bookshelf for a couple of years now. It is a program that is supposed to connect you to your inner creativity. It may sound a little out there, but sometimes I try out there stuff. So after reading the first chapter, I thought, why not? Creative endeavors always feed my soul and as of late, my soul needs some feeding. Part of the program is to take yourself on a weekly artist date. Dating myself to connect to my inner creativity? Younger versions of myself may have laughed at this, but the mom version of myself is excited about the idea of time alone .  In pure defiance of the snow I have seen almost daily for months, for my first artist date, I decided to get a pedicure.
