A Little Introduction

Hi, my name is Jan. I’m married to a man named Dan. And if this were a Dr. Suess book, we would live in a can and drive a sedan. We actually live in a basement apartment, a very stereotypical newlywed abode. Dan and I have been married for 5.5 weeks, so yeah, I’m hitting the veteran status now. (I can feel those who have been married for more than 3 months laughing at my newness as we speak.) Thus far, I’m really enjoying married life. My love is also my friend and life is fun. I’ve grown accustom to being “we” instead of “me”, which definitely has its benefits. I’ve been fine sharing things like the car, the bed and the toaster. However, the one thing I kind of miss as my own is my blog. Call me selfish (or don’t because it might hurt my feelings) but I miss having my own cozy little spot on the world wide web to share the random studies I find, give book reviews and tell you about the crazy lady in front of me in the grocery line. You know, those type of meaningful things. On our blog I could feel the ever present new audience of his friends and such, whom I really do enjoy. However, with this new audience I felt self censorship setting in. It caused me to hold back on some of my comments and what I find interesting. I have no one to blame but myself, since I know most of this audience will still accept me even after I post a study on the effects of too much Twilight reading has on the brain. (Let me tell you, it’s bad, real bad.) But to remedy this problem that was becoming stifling, I’ve started a new blog to share all the thoughts and experiences that are just bouncing around my little brain and can’t wait to be released. I will leave my other blog as more of an update for out-of-state friends and family; however, there might be some overlap. But this little space is for me to be me. Welcome.

  2. Yep, you're right, a lot of newlyweds live in a basement apt. (we did), but not here in the South because there are no basements. I think your car is a sedan, and maybe in a few years you will drive a tan van (we did), but for now be glad you have a man, but be glad you can still be your own person.

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

The End of the Road

There is a time when things fulfill their purpose and that is how I've been feeling with this blog of mine. When I started it, I needed my own little spot to share my thoughts and random stuff I found online. However, having two blogs has become excessive. It has been a good run (me and this little blog) and thanks for joining me. For now on, I will just be posting on my family blog . It's a private blog, but send me a message or a request if you would like to view it. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my silly thoughts or look at pictures of my cute kiddo or some craft I made. It means a lot to me. Signing off, Jannifer

Hello Sunshine

I've had the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron on my bookshelf for a couple of years now. It is a program that is supposed to connect you to your inner creativity. It may sound a little out there, but sometimes I try out there stuff. So after reading the first chapter, I thought, why not? Creative endeavors always feed my soul and as of late, my soul needs some feeding. Part of the program is to take yourself on a weekly artist date. Dating myself to connect to my inner creativity? Younger versions of myself may have laughed at this, but the mom version of myself is excited about the idea of time alone .  In pure defiance of the snow I have seen almost daily for months, for my first artist date, I decided to get a pedicure. I mostly was there for the foot massage, but I figured if I make my toes sandal ready, then surely the weather will take the hint and spring will start making its appearance. (I know, I know, we need the snow, we are in a drought. All the lakes a d...
